BlackHawkDownOn September 11th, 2011, Cornerstone Church enjoyed a guest speaker at its Sunday services. He had been a member of the U.S. Army Rangers.

He wore the rank of a captain, and he shared his personal testimony about a rescue effort in Somalia depicted in the 2001 movie Black Hawk Down. As he spoke about the battle in which he was wounded, he also shared key points of the Ranger creed. “Surrender is not a Ranger word” and “I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy” are two points he emphasized. The last point is characterized by the phrase “No Man Left Behind.”

Think of the circumstances! You are in a foreign land. You are in hostile territory and injured. Your enemies are not thinking about sparing your life. And if they do spare you, they will only use you as leverage against your friends and your country; therefore, surrender is not an option. Thankfully, you are with brothers, the best of the best. They are those who care about the mission, and who care about you more than they care about themselves. When you fall, they will pick you up. When you are discouraged and weak, they will build you up and spur you on to go further than you ever thought you could go.

This is not a hypothetical scenario! This is reality! “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1Pet 5:8). Men are in a war zone and the stakes are high. If you surrender to temptation it will affect yourself, your family, and your church.

God has given you the best offensive weaponry and defensive armor if you would only put it on (Eph 6:11-17). But, most importantly, God has given you brothers to fight for you and to help you stay focused on the mission.

Man in the Mirror Ministries has written a book called, of all things, No Man Left Behind. It describes how men get off track from what their real priority should be. For our highest calling from Jesus Christ is to be disciples and discplemakers. In Matthew 28:19, the Lord proclaimed “go and make disciples of all nations.” This mission is not for the pastors or Sunday School teachers. This is for every follower of Christ.

Man in the Mirror Ministries will again join with the Coalition of Bowie Area Men’s Ministries (CoBAMM) to help make disciples of Jesus Christ. The 2012 MAN ON FIRE Conference, held at Cornerstone Church on November 9th and 10th, is coming. The title of the two-day seminar is “ReWired.” We will again focus on joining groups of men together as teams of brothers in Bowie. Make your reservation now!

“Why should I come?” you might ask. I will close and answer with words from Solomon:

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

Who are the strands? One strand is you, one is your brother, and the other is the Lord himself. Do not be that one who falls. Do not be that man left behind. Come.
